Introduction: Regarding the prevalence of depression and importance of the role of the Quran in mental health, the present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy based on teaching the monotheistic concepts of the Holy Quran on the mood of depressed patients admitted to the psychiatric ward of Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord.
Methods: According to the experimental studies, 30 depressed patients were selected based on the research criteria and randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received an 8-session cognitive therapy based on Quranic concepts and verses, and no independent variable was used for control group. Both groups were assessed before and after treatment using the Beck Depression Inventory (1961).
Findings: ANOVA was applied to analyze the data. The results showed that after intervention, the mean of depression was significantly lower in the experimental group than control one.
Conclusion: In general, it can be stated that learning the Quran's interpretation of monotheistic concepts can improve the depressed mood of patients.
