abstract ={Background and aim: The subject of population and attention to the family foundation is necessary and essential for the survival of any country and civilization. Many studies have been sporadically conducted on the reasons for the decrease in the desire of families to have children. In Iranian society, as an Islamic society and the high significance of having children in the holy religion of Islam, further studies are necessary for more comprehensive look at the importance of spirituality in the desire of families. In this study, a comprehensive review has been conducted to examine the causes of this decrease in the desire to have children and the role of family spirituality on tendency to have children. Materials and methods: In this review article, by searching in domestic and international databases and using the keywords spirituality, family, childbearing, cultural conditions and economic conditions of society in Persian and English, 70 articles were found. After screening the titles and abstracts, 45 articles were identified according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings: The family has undergone structural, functional, and demographic changes, which is caused by the shift in the social system from an agricultural economy to an industrial economy, followed by the weakening of the extended family and the formation of the nuclear family. The modernization and expansion of urbanization and industrialization in Iran have expanded value changes, the importance of individualism and free choices, which has reduced people's desire to form families and have children. Studies indicate that families with strong spiritual roots have a greater desire to have children. Conclusion: By expanding easy marriage and reviving religious values in society will undoubtedly contribute significantly in increasing the population.},

abstract ={Background and aim: Pomegranate is a fruit with potential health benefits mentioned in the Quran and Islamic traditions. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of pomegranate on the activity of paraoxonase-1 (PON1) enzyme and its role in preventing cardiovascular diseases and other related metabolic disorders. Materials and methods: This review article was conducted by searching Pubmed, Magiran, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases using the keywords pomegranate, paraoxonase-1, antioxidants, and cardiovascular diseases. Islamic sources related to pomegranate were also reviewed. Findings: Pomegranate polyphenolic compounds, especially ellagic acid and punicalagin, reduce LDL oxidation and increase HDL function by increasing the expression and activity of the PON1 enzyme. Pomegranate juice consumption has been shown to increase PON1 activity by 20-80% in human and animal studies. The mechanism of action involves the stimulation of PON1 gene expression through the cAMP-PKA pathway and increased enzyme stability under oxidative stress conditions. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that pomegranate can play an important role in preventing cardiovascular disease by increasing PON1 enzyme activity. These results are in line with the recommendations of the Quran and Islamic traditions about pomegranate consumption.},

title = {The role of dates as a fruit mentioned in Quran in human health: From traditional medicine to modern medicine},
abstract ={Background and aim: The Holy Quran, in its emphasis on healthy nutrition, identifies dates as both a nutritionally valuable fruit (mentioned 20 times) and a divine blessing. The hadiths of the Infallibles (PBUH) further characterize dates as a "heavenly fruit," highlighting their therapeutic and preventive health benefits. The present study scientifically examines the therapeutic and preventive effects of dates on human health. Materials and methods: In this review article, 43 articles from electronic databases and search engines—including PubMed, Google Scholar, and SID—were analyzed. Findings: Dates contain valuable bioactive compounds, including essential fatty acids (oleic, myristic, and linoleic), B-group vitamins (B1, B2, B3), vitamins C and A, dietary fiber, and pectin. Studies have reported multiple therapeutic properties for these compounds, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, antidiabetic, and cardioprotective effects. These properties position dates as a functional food with potential applications in disease prevention and adjunctive therapy. Conclusion: The verses of the Holy Quran, through their repeated references to dates, emphasize the importance of this heavenly fruit in nutrition and health. This special attention from Almighty God demonstrates divine grace toward the health of His servants. The harmony between divine guidance and scientific discoveries reveals God's supreme wisdom in creating this blessed fruit. Dates truly represent a treasure trove of health secrets, valued both in religious texts and modern science.},

title = {Association between spiritual intelligence and level of mental health literacy with stigma toward people with mental illness among Babol Medical students},
abstract ={Background and aim: Stigma in mental illnesses can be described as a set of negative attitudes and beliefs that cause fear, rejection, avoidance and discrimination against people. Stigma towards people with mental illness is influenced by many factors. Religious beliefs also have a significant impact on the beliefs and attitudes of people towards people with mental illness. Attitudes towards mental illness are also shaped by mental health literacy, that is, knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders that help recognize, manage or prevent them. Therefore, the present study was conducted to examine the association between spiritual intelligence, level of mental health literacy and the proportion of patients with mental illnesses among Babol medical students. Materials and methods: In this study, we investigated the relationship between personality traits, religious beliefs and the level of mental health literacy in Babol medical students. 262 medical students completed three questionnaires of attitudes towards mental illness, spiritual intelligence and mental health literacy in each of the four academic levels and the results were evaluated. The data were analyzed using SPSS 24. Findings: 262 students completed the study. 117 were men (44.7%) and 145 were women (55.3%). The mean age of the students was 22.89 ± 2.24 years. 18 students (6.9%) were married and 244 students (93.1%) were single. The results of the linear regression showed that among the two important variables of mental health literacy and spiritual intelligence, the variable of mental health literacy was related to the stigma of mental illness both in the univariate analysis and in the multivariate regression analysis (p-value<0.005). Therefore, the variable of mental health literacy is a strong independent predictor variable for the status of stigma regarding mental illness in students. Conclusion: By increasing mental health literacy, the attitude towards mental illnesses improves and the negative consequences of stigma towards mental illness can be prevented.},

title = {Hijab and chastity from the perspective of the Holy Quran and the importance of observing ethics and professional dress code among medical staff},
abstract ={Background and aim: One of the most important pillars of a religious society is adherence to hijab and chastity. This has been mentioned many times in the Holy Quran and the Hadith of the Infallibles. Compliance with ethics and professional dress code will make patients calm and increases professionalism in healthcare settings. The purpose of this review article is to examine the role of hijab and chastity from the perspective of the Holy Quran and the importance of observing ethics and professional dress code among medical staff. Materials and methods: The present study is a critical review based on library search and examination of verses of the Holy Quran and searching in Persian and English databases, including SID, Magiran, Iran Doc, Iran Medex, Google Scholar and PubMed using the keywords “hijab”, “chastity”, “ethics” and “professional dress code” without time frame. 72 documents were initially examined in this field and finally, 13 documents were evaluated. Findings: From the perspective of the Holy Quran, hijab is a barrier and an obstacle, but most jurists analyze hijab in terms of appearance, speech, and behavior and explain its beneficial effects in individual and social life. Moreover, chastity means self-preservation and restraining the human soul from taboos and sensual desires. Students and medical staff are required to observe ethics and professional dress code in most universities worldwide. Conclusion: According to the Holy Quran, hijab is not a physical restriction but a multidimensional tool for preserving individual dignity, enhancing mental well-being, and reinforcing social foundations. This concept aligns with professional ethical principles in healthcare settings. Therefore, integrating the religious concepts such as hijab and chastity with professional ethical standards can improve the quality of healthcare services and strengthen patient trust.},

abstract ={Background and aim: One of the most important social issues emphasized by divine scriptures, including the Qur'an, is maintaining ties of kinship. This has been downplayed in the society in the current era for some reasons. This research was conducted to investigate the role of this divine duty in the physical and mental health of family members with the aim of promoting the duty of "Silat Al-Rahim", which means maintaining ties of kinship. Materials and methods: This research was conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection to achieve the research objectives was done from the Holy Quran and authentic narrational texts related to the subject, using data collection forms and analyzing them qualitatively. Findings: Based on the findings of this research, maintaining ties of kinship is one of the most important teachings of Islam in relationship with relatives. Bonding with relatives and being kind to them is one of the most important ways to grow and excel physically and spiritually in the family and getting closer to God Almighty. Among the most important worldly effects of maintaining ties of kinship, one can mention longer life, increase in sustenance, eradication of poverty, provision of physical health, peace of mind, overcoming depression, better management of worldly affairs. Among the afterlife effects, one can mention ease of reckoning and protection from sin. Also, severing ties of kinship leads to the curse of God and the person going to hell. Conclusion: The results of this research show that maintaining ties of kinship is one of the most important ways of Islamic lifestyle and promoting this duty has many blessings and plays an important role in the physical and mental health of family members.},

title = {Presenting the dimensions and components of human dignity with a meta-synthesis approach},
abstract ={Background and aim: Human dignity is an important topic in the field of anthropology and has led to different approaches among different theological and humanitarian schools. In heavenly religions, especially the religion of Islam, and especially in the Holy Book of Muslims and the life of the Prophet and the infallible Imams, precious foundations of human dignity have been presented. The main goal of this research is to identify and explain the fundamental dimensions and components of "human dignity" through a systematic meta-synthesis study of previous studies. Materials and methods: This research is based on a meta-synthesis approach and its statistical population includes all scientific articles published in Iran on the topic of human dignity between from 2011 to 2023. A total of 28 research articles available in the Scientific Information Database (SID), the National Database of Scientific Journals (Magiran), and Irandoc were found to be relevant to the topic. The kappa coefficient was 0.87, and after various reviews and refinements, 15 articles were selected for the final review. Findings: The dimensions of human dignity include six dimensions: individual, social, acquired, inherent, religious, and organizational, each of which includes numerous components. These components affect each other in some cases. Conclusion: Human dignity is considered the main foundation of a healthy individual and social life. This concept, with a six-dimensional model (inherent, acquired, individual, social, religious, and organizational), shows that understanding and enhancing human dignity requires a comprehensive and multifaceted approach. Each of these dimensions, not only independently, but also in connection and interaction with other dimensions, determines the complex and dynamic structure of dignity.},

abstract ={Background and aim: The psychological challenges faced by women with breast cancer negatively impact their psychological functioning and increase distress, reducing their ability to cope with difficulties. This study aims to examine the effect of Islamic coping strategies on anxiety and life expectancy in women with breast cancer. Materials and methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The study population included all cancer patients who had visited or were hospitalized at the Cancer Research Center of Kerman University of Medical Sciences and Dr. Afzalipour Hospital in Kerman between September 2023 and October 2024 for continuous treatment. A total of 40 eligible volunteers were selected through random sampling and randomly assigned into experimental and control groups (20 participants in each group). All participants completed the Miller Hope Scale (Miller, 1988) and Spielberger Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, 1983) in the pretest stage. The experimental group then received an intervention consisting of training in Islamic coping strategies over a one-month period (two sessions per week). Afterward, participants completed the questionnaires in the posttest stage, and data analysis was conducted using ANCOVA considering a significance level of α=0.05. Findings: ANCOVA analysis showed that, after controlling for pretest effects, there was a significant difference between the groups in posttest scores for state anxiety (P=0.037), trait anxiety (P=0.032), and life expectancy (P=0.004, p<0.001). Islamic coping strategy training accounted for 11.2% of the changes in state anxiety, 11.9% in trait anxiety, and 20.6% in life expectancy. Therefore, Islamic coping strategies had a significant effect on life expectancy and anxiety in breast cancer patients. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that Islamic coping strategies, comprising psychological and spiritual techniques based on Islamic teachings, can effectively help cancer patients, especially women with breast cancer, reduce anxiety and enhance life expectancy. Moreover, these strategies contribute to patients' psychological adjustment, assisting them in better coping with their illness.},

abstract ={Background and aim: In the holy religion of Islam, the essence of a human being is the soul or spirit, and the body is its instrument. The more a person controls his/her body and applies religious laws to it, the closer he/she becomes to a "perfect human being". The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical and mental health and its relationship with the concept of healing and the associated factors from the perspective of Nahj al-Balagha. Materials and methods: This research was conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection was done by carefully examining the book Nahj al-Balagha and extracting words and phrases related to the meaning of healing, physical and mental health and the factors affecting them. A comprehensive review of Persian and English articles in international databases was also performed. Findings: The findings showed that the word "healing" is used more than 9 times in Nahj al-Balagha, most of which refer to the healing of the soul and heart, and in a few cases, physical healing is also addressed. Factors such as the Qur'an, piety, proper nutrition, Islam, wise words, charity, prayer, and fasting are introduced as healing factors. Conclusion: The main goal of the Infallible Imams is the same as the goal of religion and the Holy Qur'an, namely, guiding people towards God. In this regard, they have acquainted people with various aspects of health, sometimes at their request and sometimes through health, nutritional, and well-being recommendations. Adhering to the guidelines of Imam Ali in the unique book Nahj al-Balagha can lead to physical and mental health, which is necessary for achieving human perfection.},

title = {Experiences of patients with osteoarthritis regarding the impact of spiritual health on pain management: A content analysis study},
abstract ={Background and aim: Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease in humans that can lead to disability. Its main symptoms are pain and joint inflammation. Research has shown that maintaining spiritual health can help manage the disease and relieve pain. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of spiritual health on pain management in patients with osteoarthritis in Abadan and Khorramshahr, southwestern Iran. Materials and methods: The present study is a qualitative content analysis of 15 patients with osteoarthritis who were referred to the clinics of Ayatollah Taleghani Teaching Hospital and Shahid Beheshti Teaching Hospital in Abadan, and Valiasr Teaching Hospital in Khorramshahr, southwestern Iran, in 2023. The participants were selected through purposeful sampling. The sample size was determined based on the criteria of information saturation. The study utilized semi-structured interviews as its research method. The data were analyzed using a systematic classification and coding process based on the Graneheim method. Findings: Fifteen patients with osteoarthritis were studied, 11 of whom were female and 4 were male. Their mean age was 47±4.5 years. Data analysis yielded 68 codes. The obtained codes were categorized into 15 subcategories, which were subsequently merged into three categories: faith and trust in God (comprising 8 subcategories and 38 codes), divine providence (comprising 4 subcategories and 13 codes), and the effect of prayer (comprising 3 subcategories and 17 codes). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that a close and strong relationship with God relieves physical and mental pains, increases tolerance and adaptability to problems, hope, acceptance of divine providence, peace, and satisfaction, positive energy, increased motivation, reduction of stress and anxiety, and reduction of nosophobia. As a result, spiritual health is effective in pain management in osteoarthritis patients. The current research can be the basis for paying more attention to therapeutic interventions with a spiritual health approach for patients.},
