Tendency to religious issues in scientific outputs of medical sciences

Introduction: Publishing articles on religious issues is an effective means to understand religious concepts and their relation to health and hygien. The aim of this study was to discover tendency to religious issues in scientific outputs of medical sciences.
 Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted among on all Persian Medical Sciences Journals during the two years(2012- 2013). Titles, abstracts and keywords of all articles were reviewed in terms of words such as God, Qu'ran, Verses and Hadith,prayer,fast, and religion. The data were collected by means of a tailor-made data collection sheet and analyzed using descriptive and Analytical statistics.
Findings: Results showed that 82 (0.6% of Articles) of 13000 published articles from 126 journals of 47 Medical Sciences Universities (during 2012-2013) showed that mentioned words were used in 82 scientific work (in 0.6% of articles). Journal of Shahid Beheshti, Babol and Isfahan Medical Sciences Universities had the highest frequency of related articles (13, 11 and 9, respectively), and Qu’ran was the most frequent word among all detected articles.
Conclusions: Although, a number of scientific outputs of medical sciences were dedicated to religious issues, but the rate of such topics were limited. Therefore, apply measures for further attention and publish more articles are recommended.
