Spiritual dimensions of Food Safety Based on Islamic Sources

There is no single perception of the term food safety among people. One of the significant and influential factors in construction of food safety meaning is religious teachings. The purpose of this paper is to identify the concept of food safety in Islamic sources. Results show that perception towards food as a sign of God, and belief in God’s provisions, and consuming foods with divine intentions, along with fulfillment of the needy rights while consumption, and purification of food, also using miscellaneous food, and adherence to legal and abstaining from illegal food are among the most important attitudinal and behavioral strategies in safeguarding food according to Islamic considerations. In addition attaining food safety in Islamic teachings is based on some prerequisites such as acceptance of religious teachings for a source of nourishment safety and also giving priority to soul health regarding this issue. Also one of the most important results of   attitudinal and behavioral strategies in safeguarding food is the dignity of body and soul.
