Background and aim: In Islam, purity and cleanliness are considered acts of worship. Ablution has removed the effects of inevitable environmental pollution, freed man from the formative effects of pollution, and preserved the spiritual condition of man. In addition, ablution also leads to external purity. This review study investigated the relationship between ablution and various aspects of health and health of the body and soul. Materials and methods: In this review, the keywords “ablution”, “purity”, “cleanliness”, “cleanliness”, “body health”, “soul health”, “mental health”, and “disease” were used. Magiran, SID, Iran Medex, and PubMed databases were reviewed. First, the titles and abstracts of the articles and then the full texts of the articles were examined. Finally, 27 articles were selected and reviewed. Findings: Ablution removes impurities and creates purity and health of soul and body. The preparations and phases of ablution play a role in the prevention of diseases. The brushing of teeth and the various stages of ablution have an effect on oral health and prevent impurities in the eyes, face and hands. Ablution is effective in preventing respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal, and skin diseases and has a positive effect on mental health and nervous system and increasing sustenance. Conclusion:As a manifestation of cleanliness and purity, ablution promotes physical and mental health and prevents respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal, and skin diseases. Ablution is highlighted as one of the effective factors in improving sustenance in Islam.
