Background and aim: Spiritual health is a set of abilities and capacities and spiritual resources that increase their adaptability and as a result, mental health of individuals. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between spiritual health and happiness and life expectancy.
Materials and methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was performed on 180 medical students of Babol University of Medical Sciences from 2019 to 2020. Three questionnaires were used in this study: the 20-item Spiritual Well-Being Scale by Paloutzian and Ellison, the 29-item Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and the 12-item Schneider's Life Expectancy Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.
Findings: According to the results of this study, 68.3% of students had moderate spiritual health, 68.9% had moderate happiness, and 60.0% had a moderate life expectancy. In examining the correlation using the Spearman's correlation coefficient, it was determined that there is a significant positive relationship between spiritual health and happiness (r=0.36 and P<0.001). Moreover, a significant positive relationship has been seen between students' spiritual health and life expectancy, which shows that with increasing spiritual health, life expectancy in students increases (r=0.32 and P<0.001). There is also a significant positive relationship between happiness and life expectancy. (R=0.15 and P=0.03).
Conclusion: Spiritual health is an effective factor in the life expectancy and happiness of medical students. It is suggested that officials strive to promote the growth and prosperity of happiness and life expectancy in medical students.
