Background: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome was considered firstly in 1981 by the report of the diseases such as pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and Kaposi's sarcoma among Homosexuals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the care of immunodeficiency virus infection in the past decade and necessity of more attention to religious teachings.
Methods: This study is descriptive and cross-sectional study according to official data published by the Ministry of Health of Iran and World Health Organization statistics in the recent decade. The incidence and ways of transmission were reviewed and then the variety of religious teachings associated with disease transmission was mentioned based on Quran and narrations.
Findings: in this study, the number of patients was annually increased 29.2 % from 2001 to 2011 averagely. The average number of deaths annually was 1936 people, and at this time the most important ways of transmission in the country among all those in 2011 were recorded injection with common device in drug users (62.5%), sex contact (21.2%) and transmission from mother to child (3.9%), respectively. Transmission way was unknown in 12.4% of this group.
Conclusion: By considering the increasing trend of infection and change in the pattern of transmission, more attention and adherence to religious teachings and practical commitment to these doctrines can be effective in controlling the AIDS and preventing its spread.
