Background and aim: One of the most important aspects of human existence is spirituality. Premarital relationships are an issue in today's world. There is very limited and varied evidence and information on the effects of spiritual health and religious orientation on positive attitudes toward premarital relationships among medical interns and stagers at Babol University of Medical Sciences. The aim of this study was to investigate spiritual health and religious orientation on these relationships.
Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 180 medical interns and stagers which was done in the form of a project based on correlation. Questionnaires of demographic characteristics, spiritual health and religious orientation and positive attitude towards premarital relationships were given to them to complete.
Findings: When mental health was examined, there was a significant negative correlation with a positive attitude toward premarital relationships. There was a negative and significant correlation between external religious orientation and positive attitude toward premarital relations. The regression showed that positive attitudes toward premarital relationships decreased by 0.99 as the students' level of spiritual health increased (P< 0.001).
Conclusion: The results indicate that increasing the level of spiritual health and religious orientation improves positive attitude toward premarital relationships.
