Introduction: Holy basil scientifically named Ocimum basilicum L. and mentioned in the Qur'an with the same name, plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of various disorders including cerebrovascular obstruction, swollen organs, asthma and gastric weakness. Therefore, the properties of basil and its role in preventing diseases based on the findings were evaluated from the point of view of the Qur'an and hadiths. Methods: In this library study, data were collected through searching various scientific articles, databases such as Google Scholar, SID ..., medicinal herb books, hadiths and narratives limited to Persian and English language and without restriction using the keywords of the Qur'an, hadiths, healthy eating, basil, modern medicine as well as Qur'anic viewpoint, and finally the results were discussed. Findings: In the Qur'an and religious sources, the importance of basil's use is mentioned, and the findings of modern medicine also indicate its many properties including sedation, anti-diarrhea, colic and so on. Conclusion: The experimental studies express the effect of this plant on the prevention of diseases including ocular infections, colds and so on.
