Introduction: Spiritual care, along with other interventions, is very important to achieve full and comprehensive health. The aim of this study was to review the relationship between spiritual health and anxiety before orthopedic surgeries.
Methods: This study was performed with appropriate keywords in international scientific websites such as PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Persian databases, WHO website, articles and dissertations published in1995-2018.
Findings: In orthopedic fractures and pains affecting the body and spirit, healthcare workers and nurses can help the patients to achieve higher moral health level by focusing on spiritual health. The research also has indicated that spirituality can affect most of the occupational, intellectual and healthcare aspects before, during and after orthopedic surgeries. Regarding spiritual strategies mentioned in the studies, we can allude to participation in spiritual-religious programs, spiritual education and analysis, physical exercise and psychological counseling.
Conclusion: According to the results, it seems that awareness of spiritual needs of a patient is necessary in healthcare. Lack of attention to the spiritual needs in health centers can lead to inappropriate therapeutic outcomes. Therefore, meeting the patients' spiritual needs before orthopedic surgeries should be considered to decrease resultant stress and anxiety.
