Background and aim: The subject of mental health has long been one of the most important issues for both the individual and the community, and it has also been given great importance in Islamic teachings. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the mental health status of bodybuilders in Ardabil city in 2024 according to Islamic teachings and the associated factors.
Materials and methods: This is a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. The statistical population consisted of male and female bodybuilders in Ardabil city. 230 people were considered as samples according to Krejcie and Morgan Table. After data collection, 27 people were excluded due to incomplete questionnaires, and finally 203 bodybuilders were included in the study. The samples were selected using convenience sampling method from 5 urban areas of Ardabil city. The data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire with validity and reliability and analyzed in SPSS 18 using descriptive-analytical statistics parameters.
Findings: In this study, the mean and standard deviation of the mental health score based on Islamic teachings was 95.15±14.36 in men and 98.13±12.20 in women. The mental health status based on Islamic teachings in the studied bodybuilders was determined as good. The mean mental health score, except for gender (P=0.039) and level of education (P=0.024), had no significant correlation with other demographic variables (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the mental health status based on Islamic teachings in the studied bodybuilders was determined as moderate to good. The average mental health score was better in women and in people with more education. Considering the place of health and especially mental health in the growth, development and excellence of individuals' capacities, further promotion of mental health based on Islamic teachings in bodybuilders and other segments of society should be emphasized through formal and informal educational interventions.
